Biography/Biografie:

The basic idea of Obsidia has been in Sir Iwain’s (guitar, grunts) mind for quite a while. In 2004 he put, together with Lucrezia (vocals), this idea into practice and the first two songs “Leif Eriksson” and “Sound of Norns” were created. After some busy months in front of the computer they recognized that it was time to play these songs in a band. Soon (spring 2006) Tajy (keyboards) and Moni (guitar) joined them and Obsidia was born. Unfortunately the search for a drummer and a bassman was much more difficult. It was only in early 2007 that Obsidia could welcome Imorh on the bass and Simon for the drums. After intense practice Obsidia first rocked the stage in Breitenbach in the BG Bar on May 16, 2007. Nevertheless, a further stroke of fate hit the band when Moni and Simon decided to leave the group after the 2nd gig on July 7, 2007 due to personal reasons. After a long down phase, Drake was found in spring 2008 and he was able to set the fire of Obsidia again. Very constructive months of practice followed up and Obsidia was proud to present the new line-up on November 8, 2008 at the Livestage in Innsbruck. Since then Obsidia enjoys a busy daily life. Additionally to international concerts the first album is being created and expected to be finished in fall 2009.

Die Grundidee von Obsidia schwebte Sir Iwain (Guitar/Grunts) schon seit längerem im Kopf. Zusammen mit Lucrezia (vocals) im Jahre 2004 wurde diese Idee Schritt für Schritt in die Tat umgesetzt und die ersten Songs „Leif Erikson“ und „Sound of Norns“ entstanden. Nach tatkräftigen Monaten in der Musikwerkstatt wurde bewusst, dass es nun Zeit für das Spielen der Songs in einer Band wurde. Schon bald (Frühjahr 2006) waren Tajy (keyboards) und Moni (guitar) mit von der Partie und Obsidia war gegründet. Die Suche nach Musikern am Bass und Schlagzeug sollte sich aber als etwas schwieriger herausstellen. Erst Anfang 2007 durfte Obsidia ihren Basser Imorh und Simon am Schlagzeug begrüßen. Nach intensiver Probezeit überzeugte Obsidia das erste Mal am 16.5.2007 in der BG-Bar Breitenbach mit ihren Songs. Nach dem 2. Konzert am 7.7.2007 ereilte der Band aber ein mächtiger Schicksalsschlag, denn Moni (guitar) und Simon (drums) verließen Obsidia aus persönlichen Gründen. Nach einem längeren Tief entfachte Drake (drums) im Frühjahr 2008 wieder das obsidianische Feuer. Konstruktive Probemonaten folgten und Obsidia darf sich nun am 8.11.2008 im Livestage Innsbruck in neuer Besetzung präsentieren.

Meaning/Bedeutung:

The name of the band, which is derived from the volcanic stone Obsidian, already gives an indication to the enormous power of the Earth. The Obsidian stone evolves where the abundant power of the Earth erupts onto the surface – from a volcanic eruption. The band Obsidia wants to demonstrate this power as well. Sulky guitar riffs that resolve into a thunderous rhythm together with bass and drums are being caressed by mythical Synthie-sounds. Severe grunts are responsible for the music’s depth and heaviness and a crystal-clear female voice builds up the climax.

Der Bandname Obsidia, welcher sich vom Edelstein Obsidian ableitet, soll die Urkraft der Erde ausdrücken. Obsidian entsteht dort, wo die mächtigsten Kräfte der Erde aus dem Inneren an die Erdoberfläche dringen – bei einem Vulkanausbruch.
Auch Obsidia will diese Kraft demonstrieren. Grollende Gitarrenriffs, welche von Bass und Schlagzeug in einen donnernden Rhythmus gebracht werden, werden von mystischen Synthiklängen umspielt. Düstere Grunts geben der Musik noch mehr Tiefe welche von einer kristallklaren Frauenstimme zum Höhepunkt gebracht wird.

Up to now there is no CD available but Obsidia is busy with recording for the first album.

Noch ist keine CD von Obsidia erhältlich, doch wird bereits tatkräftig an den Studioaufnahmen für das erste Demoalbum gearbeitet.

At the moment only black T-shirts with the band-logo are available, but we try to offer a larger sortiment soon.

Im Moment sind nur schwarze T-shirts mit Obsidia-Aufdruck erhältlich , doch wir werden uns bemühen unser Sortiment zu vergrößern und weitere Fanartikel zu entwickeln.

Around Obsidia a large groupe of fans and aids gathered in all regions, amongst others our motivated photographer Torsten (concert photos), photographer Chulii (setphotographer for website, CD) and the filmer Philipp (concert videos, DVD), but also some other groupies on whom the band always can count.

Last but not least someone eles is to be announced withouth whom the band wouldn't be where she is: All of you, fans and concert visitors, the heart and soul of every music-culture. Thank you for your support and loyality.
